Dipali Aphale

I interrogate complex systems, and turn insights into opportunities to design inclusive & elegant experiences for people and our planet.

I lead the design strategy for IBM’s AI Hardware Accelerator, and evangelize strategic foresight methodologies across our product development organization. My work is guided by speculative futures, weak signals, patterns in data, and emerging technology.

Synthetic Data Sets

IBM Synthetic Data Sets are a family of enterprise-grade data sets designed to enhance AI models. They provide easy access to high quality non-PII data, and significantly speed up the AI model lifecycle by reducing the pre-processing efforts of data scientists. These data sets are extremely realistic because they are generated through a technique called Agent Based Modeling, where information is derived from statistical distributions found in anonymous population, financial, and weather data.

Led the design strategy and research — focused on 0-1 product definition, customer experience, and GTM.

Future Fest

Future Fest is an annual event hosted by the IBM Strategic Foresight Guild. We bring designers, technologists, and futurists together to evangelize speculative design methodologies and conduct interactive workshops that empower IBMers to broaden their skills in creative product development.

Member of the guild’s leading committee and visual design lead.

AI on IBM zNext Futures

AI on IBM Z® delivers real-time insights by applying machine learning directly to transactional data, eliminating the need for data movement, and maintaining high throughput and low latency. By using the advanced hardware and software stack of IBM z17™, businesses can scale multiple AI models to power predictive use cases such as fraud detection, retail automation, and anti-money laundering.

Leading member of the AI on zNext tiger team planning for the next 10 years of infrastructure hardware needs.

Asset Lifecycle Management

IBM Maximo® Application Suite is an asset lifecycle management solution that streamlines the maintenance, inspection, and reliability of equipment that powers  critical technology infrastructure. Leveraging generative AI and advanced analytics empowers business leaders to proactively invest in assets and significantly increases safety for technicians.

I led a series of workshops with end users & decision makers ranging from business landscaping, opportunity identification, technical discovery, user experience design, and risk assessment in order to create a POC for technician automations at critical energy asset sites. This initiative opened up a $1M+ pipeline of POCs with a large technology company.

Hardware Platform Management

The firmware experience on IBM Z® bridges the hardware to the rest of the infrastructure stack. These critical experiences span resource provisioning, secure user permissions, workload balancing, network connectivity, and system automations.

I built the design research practice from the ground up and established a quarterly research program where the team was empowered with timely and reliable insights.

SpeechLab Beta

SpeechLab was IBM’s internal speech-to-text platform, empowering users with an intuitive UI to easily transcribe text from multiple formats and analyze patterns.

Conducted mixed method research to uncover gaps and opportunities in features and overall information architecture in preparation to productize SpeechLab for enterprise client use.

Everlaw

Everlaw is redefining equity and accessibility in the legal justice system. They offer cloud-native AI-powered e-discovery software for law firms, corporations, government agencies, non-profits, and educators. Everlaw brings simplicity, modernity, and speed to an industry that is essential to upholding the rights of people. The company has a powerful market presence, achieving unicorn status in their Series D round.

Swiss army knife for growth and brand spanning identity, web, product marketing, events, and interiors. Operationalized the design practice to handle 4x more projects by streamlining templates & design systems, creating best practices, and outsourcing production design.

Ova

In spite of affecting 20% of women in the United Kingdom, there are no public health initiatives to diagnose Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), the most common chronic female hormonal condition. Ova is a campaign and at-home testing kit that promotes early-stage screening of PCOS, empowering girls to seek medical support early enough to mitigate long term health risks. This project uncovers hard truths about public care delivery for women in the UK, and explores solutions to shift health autonomy to individuals.
